With more than US$2.5 billion in retail sales, the 15-year-old Powerpuff Girls brand has been one of the most successful for Cartoon Network, which has just announced the launch of an all-new series reboot set for 2016.
The new series will be supported by a full licensing program that will roll out across all regions.
The original series earned two Emmys during its 78-episode run from 1998 to 2005. The series also inspired a feature film in 2003, a 10th anniversary special, and a re-imagined CG special, The Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed, which featured an original music video from Beatles legend Ringo Starr.
The Powerpuff Girls was created by Craig McCracken and centers on three sugar-coated superheroes whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime and winning at hopscotch.
